The facts:
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), suicide is the second leading cause of death for 15 to 24 year-olds.1 Approximately one out of every 15 high school students reports attempting suicide each year. One out of every 53 high school students reports having made a suicide attempt that was serious enough to be treated by a doctor or a nurse.
The problem:
Even with existing mental health programs, the rate of teen suicide is still increasing.

Preventing Firearm Deaths
The facts:
The CDC’s National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS) reports 554,773 firearm deaths in the U.S. between 2001-2017. Of these deaths, 54% were from suicide, and 27% were homicide.
The problem:
The argument could be made that all of these deaths resulted from mental health issues.
